Hi, Maria! Thank you for joining us to share your insights on reusable period products. How did you find out about reusable products like period underwear, menstrual cups, and discs?
Maria: I started getting fed up with the prices of tampons and pads in my early college days, and I thought there had to be a better option out there that costs less long term and is less waste. I found reusable period underwear, menstrual cups, and menstrual discs and I’ve been using them ever since!
That's so interesting! What really pushed you to finally make the switch?
Maria: I did a ton of research before I bought anything but was still unsure about trying something reusable. At the time I had seen some zero waste influencers swear by the reusables. I guess you could say I was influenced to try them out, but now that I’ve started to use them, I’ll never go back!
Now that you're using them, which types of reusable period products do you currently prefer?
Maria: I alternate between period underwear and a menstrual disc. What I use depends a lot on what day I’m on, as well as what I’m doing or where I’m going.
What's your opinion on disposable pads and tampons now that you've transitioned to reusables?
Maria: I could never go back to using them consistently, now that I’ve found reusable alternatives that are kinder to my body, less expensive long term, and way less waste. However, I do still carry disposable tampons and pads in my purse just in case when I’m traveling, if someone asks me for one, or for me.
Finally, what advice would you give to someone who's sitting on the fence about trying reusable period products?
Maria: Take the leap, you won’t regret it. There are numerous planet-friendly options to deal with our periods. Everything comes in different shapes and sizes to match you. Not one product will work for every person, but there will be a product out there for you.
